About OpsWiss

The English-language operating manual for Switzerland.

Why we built this

Moving to Switzerland is a leap of faith. The country is exceptional — but figuring out where to open a bank account, which doctor speaks English, how health insurance works, and where to find a decent coworking space with reliable internet? That takes months of trial and error.

OpsWiss started as a personal Notion doc. Every time someone asked "where should I...?" on an expat forum, we'd see the same questions, the same outdated blog posts, and the same Google Maps results with no context for English-speaking newcomers.

We turned that Notion doc into a structured, verified directory — human-curated, reviewed on a 90-day cycle, and built specifically for the administrative layer of Swiss life that generic platforms ignore.

What OpsWiss is (and is not)

OpsWiss is a directory, not a booking platform. We link to business websites and phone numbers — we don't take commissions or process reservations. Our goal is to save you research time, not to monetise your purchase.

We cover 10 categories across 8 Swiss cities: Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Lausanne, Bern, Lucerne, Lugano, and Zug. Categories include coworking, restaurants, healthcare, schools, banking, hotels, transportation, shopping, nightlife, and gyms.

Every listing is reviewed by a human on a 90-day cycle. If something is closed, moved, or no longer English-friendly, it comes down or gets updated. We don't publish listings we haven't verified.

Why English-only?

Switzerland has four official languages — German, French, Italian, and Romansh — and excellent local resources in each. What it doesn't have is a single, trusted English-language reference for the practical admin of daily life.

We focus on English because that's the gap. The expat community in Switzerland is large, international, and underserved. OpsWiss is for them.

Team

OpsWiss is currently a small operation. Listings are researched and verified by our editorial team. We work with local contributors in each city who provide on-the-ground verification and context.
